B the Change Media exists to inform and inspire people who have a passion for using business as a force for good in the world. Because we believe that storytelling is an essential element in the transformation of business and society, we commit ourselves to telling the most compelling stories possible to the largest audiences possible to propel the movement of business toward its destiny as a powerful force for good. We disseminate our stories widely across print, digital, video, and live event platforms.
We want to dramatically broaden and deepen engagement with entrepreneurs, managers, employees, investors, and citizens in one of the most important discussions of our time. Simply put, B the Change Media inspires and empowers millions of people to use business as a force for good.
From our headquarters in Lawrence, Kansas, we work with partners around the globe to to illuminate the good work of businesses on every continent.
Our company was formed in 2015 as a partnership between B Lab, the nonprofit that certifies B Corporations, and founding CEO Bryan Welch. We are not focused exclusively on B Corporations but we systematically use the comprehensive B Impact Assessment as a way of measuring companies’ commitment to doing good.

Bryan has served on the boards of the Magazine Publishers Association, the Social Venture Network, Down Home Ranch Foundation and several other nonprofits. He also has served on corporate boards of directors and advisory boards of companies involved in natural foods, ecommerce and the media. He was Niche Media’s 2014 “Niche Rock Star of the Year;” is a member of Mequoda Group’s Digital Media Hall of Fame; and was honored with the B Corporations’ 2014 Hal Taussig lifetime-achievement award for “using business as a force for good.”
Bryan and his wife, Carolyn, raise organic, grass-fed landrace cattle, sheep and goats on Rancho Cappuccino near Lawrence, Kansas.

Chief Operating Officer
James Duft has more than 15 years of experience in the world of events creation and promotions. In his most recent prior position, James was the Programming & Operations Director of the Mother Earth News Fairs, a series of six nationwide events, each drawing more than 15,000 attendees to join hundreds of presenters and vendors in celebrating and learning about sustainable living. James is also a veteran of the music industry, where he promoted musical events ranging from large festivals to small gatherings.
James lives with his wife, son and dog in a sustainably built, solar-powered home east of Lawrence, Kansas, where he gardens intensively and shares 14 acres of woodlands with his neighbors. He enjoys playing and collecting guitars, spending time outdoors, and preparing and eating delicious food – homegrown whenever possible.
Manager of Information Technology
Justin is a jack-of-all-trades. As B the Change Media’s Business Manager, Carrie takes on the important tasks of accounting and financial management for the entire company. Carrie has been happily married for 16 years to a man she’s known since junior high school, and the two are parents to daughters Ella and Logyn. Her family also includes three snuggly dogs, and the whole crew recently moved into a fixer-upper house that has required lots of work and love. Carrie’s mission in life is to balance everything with a smile and a deep breath.
John joined the B the Change Media team with a background in retail, social science, information services and marketing, including several years working for Hallmark stores and Waldenbooks and teaching English abroad in South Korea. He holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from…READ MORE Washburn University and a Master of Library and Information Studies degree from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia. John also holds certificates in teaching English as a foreign language from Boston Academy of English and International Teacher Training Organization in Guadalajara, Mexico. Most recently, John worked for the events team of the Mother Earth News Fairs, helping to inspire people to be lead more sustainable lives.
John’s passions are travel, having worked in or traveled to 31 countries, and reading up on culture and world social developments. He joined the B the Change Media team with enthusiasm for the ongoing journey of connecting ethical, green and socially conscious businesses to the customers who want to instill change for the betterment of the planet.
Before joining B the Change Media, Jennifer spent six years as Managing Editor of Mother Earth News magazine. Jennifer graduated from the University of Kansas with a dual degree in environmental studies and geography. She headed up a Fair Trade awareness student organization, led alternative spring breaks to El Salvador, and worked on an organic farm outside of her time in the classroom.
When not at her desk, Jennifer frequents the local running trails, cultivates an organic garden, raises pastured pigs and chickens on a growing homestead with her husband, Tyler, and whips up culinary delights in her country kitchen. She spends a considerable amount of time reading books and magazines with her beloved cat, Lloyd, on her lap.
Lindsey is B the Change Media’s Associate Editor, and is responsible for Web- and print-content development along with driving the company’s social-media strategy. She earned her master’s degree in journalism from the University of Kansas before starting work as the creator and leader…READ MORE of a digital content department at Ogden Publications Inc. Over the past five years, Lindsey has developed digital content strategies for several national brands as an in-house employee and owner of her own small media company before starting work with B the Change Media in February of 2016.
When she isn’t working, Lindsey divides her time between doting on her two cats, attempting to become an accomplished vegetarian cook, checking out more books from the library than she ever has time to read, playing cello in the town orchestra, frequenting local restaurants and coffee shops, and hanging out with her beautiful family. Lindsey was raised to adore games of all kinds, and she seizes any opportunity to play cards or Catan with her friends.
Doug spent more than 30 years in the newspaper industry as a reporter, photographer, designer and editor before joining B the Change Media as Design Director of B Magazine. His passions for organic gardening, local foods and sustainability led him to volunteer …READ MORE at The Land Institute and serve on the board of Prairieland Market, a local and organic food cooperative — both located in Salina, Kansas, where he and his family previously lived. He and his wife, Nancy, now live in a circa-1878 home in a historic neighborhood of Lawrence, Kansas. Their son is a software engineer, and their daughter is an actor.
Before moving to the United States for graduate school, Yu grew up and lived in China, where she worked as a mechanical engineer. She moved to the United States for graduate school and earned her master's degree in mathematics from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. She worked as…READ MORE an actuary for insurance companies before semi-retiring to stay home and raise her two daughters. After her younger daughter left for college, Yu recently decided to come out of her retirement and do something totally new by joining the B the Change Media team.
In her free time, Yu enjoys playing tennis and pickleball. She loves cooking good food and sharing it with friends over wine. Yu lives in Topeka, Kansas, with her little Yorkshire Terrier, Lucky.
After several busy years raising three boys, Heather joined the B the Change Media team in search of a new challenge. When away from work, she spends time on her small Kansas farm, tending to horses, sheep, chickens, dogs, cats and a large garden. Megan was the girl next door — she worked at a bakery right next to the prospective B the Change Media office while attending college at the University of Kansas, where she graduated with a degree in Strategic Communication from the School of Journalism. A few months before graduation, she saw an article in the paper announcing that B the Change Media was her soon-to-be neighbor, and its mission felt just as home to her as its neighborly location. …READ MORE She knocked on the door to offer assistance, and has continued to do so since.
